Club Event: Annual BBQ

July 31st, 2008

Annual BBQ
Saturday August 16th 2008

The Meadowlark Cove picnic site at Bear Creek Lake Park on Sat., August 16th has been reserved. The official picnic time will be 1-4PM, that is when the alcohol permit is good for. I would encourage people to come anytime during the day, we have the shelter all day and it’s very close to the swim beach. Beer, up to 6.0, is allowed at all times, but for hard alcohol it can only be during the permit time. The club will provide the food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Event reminder: Aug 2nd Iron Chest Mine

July 28th, 2008

This is a difficult trail out of Nathrop, just past the Grizzly Lake trail. While not a long trail, the long boulder field encountered at the beginning will slow your progress considerably. There is another small rocky section further up, then you reach the old Iron Chest Mine. Be careful around the old buildings and mine shafts.

Snow, snow and more snow!

May 27th, 2008

While it’s been a great winter for skiers and filling reservoirs, it has put a damper on driving trails. Several that were normally open year round got closed due to mud from all the runoff, such as Chinaman Gulch. But they are slowly starting to re-open.
However, many of the high trails will be opening a lot later than normal. One example is Twin Cone. While it is open, it would normally be close to being melted off enough to at least get near the top. But this year there is a load of snow still on it, by evidence of the last club trip. The second half of the big hill was still covered with many feet of snow, and it looked like much more further up. It probably won’t melt off for at least a month if not longer.
So if you plan on going on club trips, please keep your eye on the forum as trails may have to be changed around. I had tried scheduling around an increased snow load, but I really had no idea just how much the mountains were going to get, and they can still get more.

Range Rover Classic EAS Conversion

EAS Conversion Tech Article

The new Range Rover just before taking ownership.

After talking to many fellow roverholics (Yes, I mean you Paul!), I decided to take the leap and get an old Range to use as a heavy trail rig. My goal was just to find a truck in good condition and running for the most part. After look around, mainly on the west coast, I did find some very worthy trucks. After working out the details of the purchase with my wife, I decided to by a 93’ LWB. Initially, I did not believe I was going to buy anything that still had the stock suspension in it. Amazingly enough, the truck still had the working EAS system in it. The bags did not look replaced as they were very worn. Read More;
